DANCERS IN SCHOOLS

25th March 2008

The Ministry of Education's Artists in Schools programme creates the opportunity for practising professional artists in the fields of dance, drama, music, and visual arts, to work with young people in New Zealand primary and secondary schools.

Ministry of Education funding supports artists’ residencies with financial support for a period of up to 10 weeks. This allows dancers to work with students and teachers on artistic projects while being paid and for schools to cover resources such as materials and costumes needed for the project.

The 2008 Artists in Schools programme was greeted enthusiastically by both schools and artists with the Ministry of Education receiving over 350 applications for projects this year.

Digital Stories of some of the 2008 projects will be published on Arts Online during the year, which may provide guidance for schools and artists intending to apply for projects next year.

The Artists selected for 2008 residencies include dance artists

Lyne Pringle - Mount Cook School, Wellington

Lusi Faiva (Touch Compass) - Mt Richmond Special School, Auckland

Sarah Campus, Tim Turner (Touch Compass) - Rosehill School, Auckland

Brent Harris - Auckland Girls’ Grammar School
