DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI MICHAEL PARMENTER

28th January 2010

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI MICHAEL PARMENTER
Michael Parmenter has been awarded a 2010 Distinguished Alumni Award by the University of Auckland.

Michael, who is a graduate and current student of The University of Auckland's Dance Studies Programme has been invited to make a presentation as part of their Distinguished Alumni Speaker Series on 6 March 2010. This event is open to all and free to attend.

In his presentation Gestures of Aliveness Michael will discuss his change in focus from choreography to theoretical research. The particular area of his current investigation, the relation between the phenomenon of life and dance practice, seems to provide a key to a more fundamental relation between personal experience and the larger world.

Michael Parmenter MNZM, MCPA (First Class Honours) 2008, is one of New Zealand's leading and best-known dancers and choreographers with an international career spanning nearly 30 years. Michael's choreography ranges from innovative solo works to large-scale opera-house productions. He directed his Commotion Company from 1990-2008 and has choreographed works for Footnote Dance Company and the Royal New Zealand Ballet, collaborating with acclaimed New Zealand composers. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards and is a renowned teacher and public speaker.
