DANZ has been invited to present at two international conferences in November.
Tania Kopytko, DANZ Executive Director is attending the World Dance Alliance - Asia Pacific (WDA - AP) conference in India, 28 Nov to 1 December 2009. The theme of the conference is Re-searching Dance, in the sense that we are re searching what role dance plays in our world. DANZ is the New Zealand Chapter head for WDA Asia Pacific and this event is the opportunity to network and create stronger links in our region. Tania is on the Status and Welfare Network for WDA-AP which feeds into the work DANZ is currently involved with in researching conditions of work and rates of pay. Her presentation at WDA-AP will be on dance as a tool for development and the processes of developing dance.
DANZ has also been invited to attend the TanzKongress in Germany. Under the motto No Step without Movement! the programme includes a meeting of countries that have developed dance strategies or plans. DANZ Marketing & Admin Manager Celia Jenkins will be presenting the New Zealand Dance Industry Strategy at a forum of the international Dance Plans group. This will provide the opportunity to share how countries are maintaining momentum and the development work emerging from national dance strategies. DANZ attendance at this conference is due to support from the Goethe Institut and Warren Douglas Scholarship Fund.
Tania says "going to these events, DANZ is able to represent the New Zealand dance industry and its uniqueness. We will benefit from the experiences of other countries and contexts. The connections made are vital within our contemporary global context and our immediate Asia Pacific region. We look forward to bringing back and sharing valuable information".
