POYEMA Dance Company
Sacred Profane Muse Mystery
A contemporary dance company whose focus is the creation and
presentation of sacred mythic dance. Poyema, a Greek word, found
in the Bible, Ephesians Chapter2 verse IO. It means 'God's work
of art.' Poyema's work may be best described and understood as
'Spirituality Made Visible'. (It is not new age).
Company repertoire includes The Mass of St. Cecilia (music, Charles
Gounoud); Te Deum ( Joseph Hadyn); Mandala (Hidegard of Bingen);
Leaving Eden (Gareth Farr); Rising (Phillip Glass), Soul (Brett
Dean), Shades (John Rutter), Stillpoint (Farr, Paart) - and more.
Poyema works range from classical/serious to light-hearted and
'up-beat'.
Poyema is based in central Auckland and works from Jennifer's
Studio. The Company has performed widely, including at numerous
Auckland churches, the Bay of Islands and Dunedin Festivals, and
for Auckland's Tempo.
