DANZ is the national organisation for New Zealand
dance
DANZ WORKS FOR
- The success and health of NZ dance
- Education
- Development and support of the industry
- Promotion and visibility of dance
- and all New Zealanders having a chance to dance
We aim to develop the long term
health and growth of New Zealand dance and increase its public
profile by providing information, services and resources for,
and working with, the dance industry.
The work
we do at DANZ is by its nature mostly invisible. We support
people involved in dance; students, teachers, choreographers,
performers, presenters, researchers and writers. We make
connections, plant seeds, offer options, identify
possibilities, advocate, broker and suggest directions. What we
have contributed may not be that evident, or even traceable.
Our role is to work behind the scenes, stimulating and empowering people
for the creation and presentation of dance.
DANZ has been a registered charitable organisation since
1997. DANZ is a membership organisation for the professional,
education and recreation sectors of New Zealand dance.
We support dance in all its diversity. Ko mÄtau te roopu tautoko i te hunga
kanikani huri noa i Aotearoa.
Profession, Education and Recreation
DANZ has received funding from Creative New
Zealand since its inception to provide support and services
for the professional dance sector. In 2008 DANZ facilitated
the New Zealand
Dance Industry Strategy.
DANZ has a contract with the
Ministry of Education to provide Learning Experiences Outside
the Classroom in New Zealand schools and is the hub for the
Dance Subject Association.
Since 2005 DANZ has had NRO
(National Recreation Organisation) status with SPARC, Sport
& Recreation New Zealand, recognising DANZ as the peak
body for leading the recreational dance sector. DANZ
has a No Exceptions contract with SPARC in 2008/09 to conduct
research into dance for people with disabilities.
We wish to see dance in all its diversity, actively promoted across New Zealand as a healthy option for physical activity and fun, for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
