Course description

The contemporary dance programme provides students with the ability to perform and choreograph at a professional level. As the largest and most established full time contemporary dance course in New Zealand, the UNITEC dance programme is now the major provider of professional dance and choreographic talent to the industry.

Courses include Technique and Training, Choreography and Performance, Body Knowledge & Movement Analysis, Culture & Art and Issues & Research (a cross disciplinary paper). Advanced technology with dance practice plays a key part of the students learning.

Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts (BPSA)
Contemporary dance major

Duration of qualification

3 years - Level 5, 6 & 7

Dance pre- requisites

3 x C passes in Bursary or equivalent
or
20+ years before first day of Semester
and provide evidence of aptitude
and meet the audition requirements

Age of entry

18 years +

Selection criteria at the Audition & Interview: Motivation and maturity to participate in the programme
Evidence of potential to succeed
Demonstrated ability in proposed area of study
