Welcome to the spring issue of DANZ Quarterly, which finds dance in very good heart.

Dance shows are now part of popular TV entertainment and are seriously competitive. TV One’s Dancing With The Stars was a sensation with Lorraine Downes and Beatrice Faumuina taking dance to the nation. We are lucky to have Beatrice’s partner, Brian Jones talking to Tania Kopytko about the show and ballroom dancing.

We also feature the second in a series that looks at tertiary dance programmes throughout the country. This reveals depth and diversity of programmes, with dedicated dance professionals working to create a range of options for dance graduates entering the workforce.

Spring is also the season for Dance Festivals – and four cities are offering a sumptuous spread of dance events. These celebrations, and the bubble of young, experimental dance in Auckland, will chase away winter blues.
