DANZ QUARTERLY
Issue No 4: June 2006
Editorial
Over the last ten years, the growth of tertiary dance studies programmes throughout New Zealand has been remarkable, presenting students with an ever widening field of dance study. This issue has part one of a series that discusses these dance programmes and the current uncertainties facing tertiary education providers.
Many of us began our dance careers as five year olds, lining up in rows, copying our first steps from a patient yet firm private dance teacher. These women were independent and, in many ways, ahead of their time; running their own businesses, exploring their own creativity, all the while instilling their love of dance in their pupils. Two articles in this issue celebrate these extraordinary women.
It has been a remarkable season for dance as our wealth of articles, reviews and photographs testify – from the New Zealand Festival of the Arts and Jambalaya to numerous shows and fringe events.
Wishing you happy reading
