DANZ QUARTERLY - Issue No 2: December 2005
Editorial
Welcome to the second DANZ Quarterly. It always surprises me that issues take their own shape, stories seem to cohere out of the ether and a theme appears. This one is no exception. It began with two stories celebrating early dance pioneers - Dunedin's Shona Dunlop MacTavish's article Looking Back - Should One? arrived in the post and then I attended the launching of Cherie Devliotis’ history of Auckland dance Dancing with Delight.
As if to remind us that life is fleeting and precious, two luminaries of the dance world left us – Rona Bailey and Kristian Frederickson died within the space of just over two months leaving us marvelling at their gifts and lamenting their passing. We owe a huge debt to these forceful personalities, they have shaped our world and gifted us a legacy that we will be hard-pressed to emulate.
The other theme that has emerged in this issue is the vibrancy of international dance – with stories of dance in Taiwan, Edinburgh, Argentina and Spain – not to mention our own talented Kiwi artists.
The editorial team thanks all our contributors, sponsors and readers for your support.
